Firefox 3 is more powerful than ever

19h, Firefox 3 is finally available for download. And with it begins the day which should mark Firefox in the book of world records as the most software downloaded in 24 hours .

It's been a day that we were entitled to a detailed listing of news that most of the browser Mozilla . Among the 15 000 new products listed are:

• a Add-ons Manager provided a catalog you can search for easier extensions and plugins.
• the bookmarks with one click.
• new supports CSS.
• a new color management of images. The browser interprets the colors better than its predecessor.
• a download manager where you can pause and resume downloads when you want.
• A new zoom to zoom in on the same page (instead of text only).

Well ... and others . But the most anticipated new feature is the smart location bar, or Awesome Bar, which allows to search for keywords in the history or bookmarks directly from the address bar. Of course, the browser will be faster and more secure than ever.

Mozilla will not make this automatic update from the start but a few months, the foundation will terminate the development of version 2 of Firefox and will follow an upgrade of the browser if it has not been renewed . One can note that Firefox had 28% market share at the end of last year and expects to spend the 30% mark in the coming months.

Test

The download of 7.2 MB was rather fast ( http://www.firefox3.fr ). This was followed by an installation as fast. I had a little apprehension from my extensions but most were compatible. In addition, the three who were not, both have suffered an upgrade to become compatible.

One can notice when you first use the interface has been redesigned a bit. It has new navigation buttons, tabs in the metallic appearance, a rounded address bar with a star (on the right side of the bar) which marks the page with one click.

At the speed of page loads, I also found that there was a good job. Research in the search bar is a little confusing at first but practice. Rather little more convenient for dazed: you can find the recently closed tabs in History menu.

So much for this small test flash of the new version of Firefox . It is hoped that 1.7 million will too promising and will download Firefox 3 during the 24 hours of Download Day .
