PlayStation Home: Sony's social network
Currently in beta, Sony offers us Playstation Home . Accessible from the menu of the Playstation 3, Home is a virtual universe to meet other PS3 owners. I offer a glimpse of what Sony has prepared for us, if you have the console of course.
A real world
Just like Second Life, Sony has recreated a virtual space consisting of a flat personal and attentive. There is a common area where you can chat, play checkers, chess, and which is quite original, a cinema, a bowling alley with billiards and a realistic shopping center.
You can then organize outings with friends and bowling from your couch.
The highlight of Home is the strong resemblance of the avatars, using a photo, can recreate the image in a very faithful.
Improvements to come?
While this world seems graphically attractive and rather successful, several defects are noticed quickly.
First, the characters are not expressive. The possibilities are quite limited and except when playing billiards, the character looks more like a statue.
Moreover, the few interactions are limited by the speed of the player. Even if you have a USB keyboard and a headset, if our partner does not have its controller, the protracted conversations.
Finally, the biggest problem will be confronted Sony is moderation dialogues and insults that could degrade the universe.
Compromise future or not ...
Home will have to overcome its problems and especially to allow access to anyone with a Playstation 3 connected to the Internet. But despite this, I salute the good initiative of Sony . A social network free of charge, with a realistic potential for growth, one thing is sure, expect the stock of chips because Sony does not stop there way.
